Women’s сareer after immigration is not the end of a professional path — it is a shift in logic
big map

In the first article, Elena Bykovets, CEO and founder of RelyOn Relocation®, and Tatiana Mazhutis — slash-career coach and co-founder of LinkedInBesties explored how the first year after relocation is largely devoted to adaptation and rebuilding everyday life. Now they move deeper — to how the very logic of career development changes in a new country.

Elena and Tatiana discuss why professional experience does not disappear but requires recalibration, and how to view career change without feeling that everything has been reset.

Elena: Many people feel that after relocation they take a step back in their career. Why does this happen?

Tatyana: This is about identity.

If someone spent 15–20 years building a vertical career, they are used to measuring their value through status. When the status changes, it can feel like a crisis.

Elena: But sometimes it is not a step back. It is a step to the side — closer to yourself.

Tatyana: Yes. I know many examples:
Finance specialists who became photographers.
Top managers who opened small family businesses.
Lawyers who moved into consulting or teaching.

And they feel more satisfaction. Today, having a second profession after 40 is normal.

Elena: If someone changes career direction, should they create a new LinkedIn profile?

Tatyana: No. LinkedIn does not allow multiple accounts. It is better to update your existing profile and create a clear story:
What motivated you?
Which skills are transferable?
Why did you make this change?
When the profile looks chaotic, people have doubts.
When there is logic, it looks like strategy.

LinkedIn is a tool. It should be used consciously.

In the next episode, we move to the practical level — how to build professional realization and income in a new country without rushing or burning out.
